Four Sioux Falls POWER Hockey Tier 1 Teams Advance To The 2019 USA Hockey Tier 1 National Tournament

SIOUX FALLS POWER HOCKEY PROGRAM EARNS 2019 NATIONAL TOURNAMENT BIDS AT FOUR DIFFERENT AGE LEVELS

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Jr Stampede Tier 1 Hockey Program will be sending four teams to the 2019 USA Hockey Tier 1 National Tournament April 3rd - 8th. The 18U and 16U teams will travel to Grand Rapids, MI for their National Tournament, while the 15o team will travel to Plymouth, MI and the 14U team will play in Pittsburgh, PA. Each of USA Hockey’s districts and three at-large bids will round out the sixteen-team tournament that will feature the top youth teams in the country. Sioux Falls POWER Hockey will represent the Northern Plains District, which includes South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.

The two Tier 1 Programs in the Northern Plains District include Sioux Falls POWER Hockey and Team North Dakota.  This season, the Sioux Falls POWER Hockey 18U team received an automatic bid to the National Tournament due to Team North Dakota 18’s choosing not to declare for Nationals. This will be the fourth year in a row the 18U team will participate at the National Tournament.

This past weekend, the Sioux Falls POWER Hockey 16U, 15o and 14U teams competed in the District Playoff against Team North Dakota, which was held in Sioux Falls, SD. The Sioux Falls POWER 16U team won the series in two games with a 2-0 and 8-1 commanding sweep. The 15o dominated the first two games, winning the series 4-1 and 8-0. The 14U team also won in the first two games of their series. Both games came down to the finals minutes resulting in two, one goal victories (3-2 and 4-3).

As a program, Sioux Falls POWER Hockey will now have ten USA Hockey Tier 1 National Tournament appearances in 4 years. “While it is a very special time, and something to celebrate, the work continues for all four teams. Our program goal isn’t just to go to Nationals, it’s to compete and win at Nationals,” said Sioux Falls POWER GM, Matthew Tobin.

The National Tournament is a highly scouted venue with representatives from NHL, CHL, NCAA, USHL and NAHL all present.
