Sioux Falls Power Alum Caleb Heil Drafted by Tampa Bay Lightning

Sioux Falls, SD — The Sioux Falls Power is proud to congratulate former goaltender Caleb Heil on being selected 193rd overall in the seventh round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. A 6’2″ netminder from Victoria, Minnesota, Heil is committed to the University of North Dakota (UND) and played with the Power during the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 seasons before advancing in the USHL.

“Caleb was a cornerstone of our program for two seasons,” said Noelle Needham, Head Coach of Sioux Falls Power. “He brought consistency, poise, and a competitive edge to every game. Seeing him get drafted by Tampa Bay and head to UND is a proud moment for our entire organization.”

During his tenure with Sioux Falls Power’s 16U squad, Heil developed into a top-level prospect. In September 2023, he committed to UND and transitioned to the Sioux Falls Stampede USHL team, where he continued to hone his craft.

In the 2024–25 USHL season with the Madison Capitols, Heil posted a 25‑10‑4 record, including two shutouts and a .896 save percentage over 39 games. His performance earned him USHL Goalie of the Week honors twice in late March.

Heil becomes the first UND-bound goalie to be drafted since 2016, marking a significant milestone for both his collegiate program and our community.
